Halloween as a Jehovah's Witness Kid
by Badfish inwhat was your experience like as a kid on halloween growing up in a jw family?.
i was raised in a jw family but never got baptized.. my father used to make me and my sister put old awakes and watchtower's in the trick or treaters' bags.
we would say: "i don't celebrate halloween but here's a treat for you!

We were made to answer the door and say "We don't celebrate". Imagine the reception we got! I wasn't any fun in the least. Eventually we left the lights off and just went to our bedrooms and watched tv.

Is homosexuality ever justifiable? I say YES!!!
by TimothyT inin the january 2012 awake, pages 28-29 there is another article about homosexuality.. .
the writers argue that genetics, the environment, and sexual abuse do not justify homosexuality.
the bible clearly states that homosexuality is wrong and is an abhorrent sin.

Ok Tim you're gay. Go and sin no more. Lose the struggle for acceptance. Accept yourself and move on. All the best.

Free Will and Foreknowledge
by TheUbermensch inhi, i'm a new member that enjoys civil debate, so i thought i'd just throw a topic out there.. if we take the standard, contemporary judeo-christian god (all-knowing, all powerful, and perfectly good in every possible way) and attempt to incorporate free will, we end up with a contradiction.
an all knowing being knows everything that has occured, is occuring and will occur, if otherwise then we can not consider this being to know all.
if god knows all that will happen, then he knows our decisions, as well as the outcomes of those decisions.

I didn't know that Will was being held captive. I agree, we should free him.

C'mon Farkel give me a break. Where the hell is your sense of humor? Rick wasn't pissed, why should you be? I think he's a nut and a bit on the grandiose side but you really think this did him harm or was smarmy? Don't you think that Rick's message has been completely exposed? Rick's a good one for attacking the sexuality of those who disagree with him, hell I just made him the Lord since he can pass judgement on everyone. Grain of salt Farkel, grain of salt. "Let us seek peace and pursue it". 1st Apostadelphians 2:41

Candlestick 1966, frozen in the morning, cooked alive in the sun during the day and huddled under blankets to avoid freezing in the night. Couldn't make out a thing due to the echo. Wondered why we were there. I was 9. It was at least 5 days.

Father Elders going mad !
by koolaid-man inthe stress on jehovah's witness elders raising their children in "the truth" is causing many to literally go mad.. keeping their children in " the spiritual ark" is becoming more and more difficult.. many elders are snapping under the pressure.. one of our guests on the six screens conference call told of her elder father ( who everyone at the kingdom hall thought was an angel) came home from the meeting and killed the family dog in the kitchen with his bookbag as the family looked on....... join us tonight oct. 22, 2011 at 7 pm edt.
.... our guest will be wendy lee tucker former jw whose father was an elder and terribly abused her physically and emotionally.. she received horrific beatings..... hit with a bat, punched at, receiving a broken nose and became a prisoner in her home.. wendy was looked in her room with the doors being nailed shut when the family went off to the kingdom hall.. a far cry fom being a "spiritual paradise".
it is easy to get on the call....no computer is necessary.... just dial 712-432-8710 and when asked for pin use 9925. our lines open at 6:30 pm edt.....so come on early and talk with all those who have been "touched by the tentacles of the watchtower".

Just came back from the two-day Assembly at the Yuba Assembly Hall.
by Chemical Emotions insurprisingly, i have little to say about.
nothing really stood out to me, unlike the convention.
it was all the same.. did anyone else get that feeling?

I understand they just completed a major retrofit of the building. They remodeled the bathrooms and ended up having to strengthen the walls etc. Haven't been there in a number of years. I used to give parts there in the early 90's. Now I won't go near that huge storage shed. Everyone in there is putting their life on hold.

What do the words "right" and "wrong" really mean?
by mankkeli inin a previous thread, i proposed an alternative method for addressing morality.
instead of looking at a behavior as "right" or "wrong", i suggested that we look at it as either kind or unkind.
in so doing, i was attempting to divorce human behavior from acts based on obligation.. .

Right is when you have the pink slip. Wrong is when you fart in an elevator.
